"A Country Journal Block of the Month". In the kit Sherry bought from "Keepsake Quilting" she received the "Hamburg Silver Spangled Breed" pattern, background fabrics, border fabrics. She started in 2003 and finish it in that year.
I have one started and am not sure when I will get back to it...but I WILL....After seeing the beautiful work Sherry did I do want one...She is very talented....The Ol'Blogger

Round Robin
Another page from Sherry's memory book...
Sherry speaking " In 1996 a group of 5 women started what is called a "Round Robin". Vickie, Sugar, Jackie, Jody and myself...A Round Robin is where each person makes a block and then passes it on to the next person in line so they can add a border to it..and it is passed around until everyone has worked on it.
I had not met Sugar, and Vicki until March 1997 when Jody, Jackie and I drove up to Libertyville, Illinois. What a fantastic week we had going to quilt shops during the day..Meeting at Jo's(Sugar's mother, who is one of the grandest people anyone would ever want to meet) for supper or coffee and talking about quilting, family and what we did all day. We exchanged our blocks on this trip.
April 1997 I have been working on Jackie's block. I'm using some of the material she sent along and some from my own stash...I have worked for two days trying to get my point just right on the star in the corner"...
The Ol'Blogger here " She hasn't anymore written about this...but we do know by the picture...they did complete the Round Robin....I have never done one of these but is something I would like to try someday...

24 YARDS!!!!!!
From Sherry's memory book...Sherry speaking..." In the middle of August 1996 I started my second quilt. This Quilt is called Cathedral Window..The pattern came from a book called "Through the Window and Beyond by Lynne Edwards..I chose this one because it is a great lap quilt, and I wanted something I could take to work with me and work on during my breaks.."("Now we know why GM is having financial problems :0) "The Ol'Blogger speaking)...Back to Sherry
"The main color is dark green with mauve flower inserts. I bought the material at Wal-Mart in Bedford, In. The dark green was $1.87 a yard and I bought 24 yards..."("she wanted to make sure she had enough I guess" inserted by The Ol' Blogger )" The flowered was $3.24 a yard and I got 4 yards..The wonderful thing about this quilt is as I sew the insets into my squares and sew the squares together the quilt is finished..No other sewing is needed or batting used unless you want to.
I tired of this quilt and ended up making 3 pillow for my bedroom. They just happen to be the right colors...Maybe someday I 'll try another one"....
The Ol'Blogger speaking.." 24 yards of fabric(she at this time was still calling it material) for three pillows now that was some bargain wouldn't you agree".....hehehehe
Beautiful pillows though.....

A Trip Down Memory Lane
For a special treat we are going to take a trip down memory lane...Sherry at the advice from Jody had started a Keepsakes Memories Book...She did a few pages then it has laid by the wayside...I asked her today when she started quilting and one thing let to another..She remember this book and began sharing with me...I got it from her and am going to share from it....It has become an UFO as she hasn't kept it up but will get back to it I am sure now...
Sherry speaking " I started my first quilt July 27,1996..The name of this quilt is "Ocean Waves". The pattern came from Big Block Quilts magazine 1996 edition, and was created by Debby Kratovil.
I chose this pattern because I liked all the bright colors...The blues, greens, hot pink, orange, turquoise, and purple, all set against a black background..I bought the material (remember she has just started quilting so its not fabric yet..hehehe) at Wal Mart in Bedford, In. for $1.87 a yard and I bought 7 1/2 yards for the top. The backing and batting were bought at Craft Town in Salem, In. The backing was $4.98 a yard and I got 6 yards and the batting was $12.25 for Queen size. On Sept.7 1996 Jody and Jackie taught me how to baste the three layers together. We used a room in the basement of the Bedford Public Library. We taped the backing with masking tape to three long tables that had been pushed together, laid batting on top and then the quilt top, and pinned all three layers together. Jody showed me how to baste using a sugar spoon. Jackie taught me how to make a quilters knot...What great friends they are.. It took us three hours...I started hand quilting my quilt together that night and trying to learn to use my thimble..How awkward I am...I'm also using a Lap Hoop to hold my quilt...I changed from my lap hoop to a quilting frame I have borrowed from my Mother-In-Law Dolly. I found I like the quilting frame best for this project..I finished this quilt in February 1997 and presented to Starr Anna my Daughter..Now on to other quilts I have already started...
The Ol'Blogger here....The only details she left out in this journaling was the weather for the day :0)...I hope you enjoy this as much as I have....How precious this is...

Journaling
We got a free up grade on our satellite....so now I can record my quilting shows...neat....Quilting shows... better invention... than sliced bread....
Fon's and Porter this week showed how to make a note book cover.... I had some Elvis fat quarters the SoTA Sisters had gotten me over the years, decided to use some of them...made this Journaling Elvis Cover". It's a great place to keep the happenings of the day....Hey sometimes I need help remember things..:0) Besides with the pocket on the inside, I don't have to go hunting for pen or pencil.....May help my journaling , for by the time I found one, I usually had gotten side tracked on to doing something else.. Baths and Bathrooms
The pattern was in a cross stitch magazine. Rhona thought it was so cute she stitched in back in 1993... Yes our Rhona also cross stitches...and she is really good I might add...as you can see...When she redid her bathrooms a couple of years ago this picture fit right in with the theme she chose of "Baths and Bathrooms...

Just the Right Size for a Crib....
This was one of Rhona's first project she did after joining Quarry Quilters several years ago...It was a block of the month....She first started hand applique but decided it would never get finished if she did it this way...so she switched to fusible and machine applique.. but she did hand quilt it... Little Ashley sleeps under it when she comes and visits...it is just the right size for her crib....I forgot to get the name of it....any one who knows please let us know....

A Leap of Faith
This is the first time I have taken on a project without first getting input from the sisters....My grandson, Jacob was playing in the back yard with our boxer, Presley....Yes, Presley does curl his lip like the real King....I am a Elvis fan through and through...sorry for that little side trip :0)....Anyway I snapped a pic just as Jacob caught him from a running leap...I loved the pic...and decided to see what I could do with it...Not knowing where I was starting or where I was going...I just began to play...Printed the picture out on fabric...cut Jacob and Presley out..Looking at the picture I decided to add the tree that was out back...we call it the Josh's (my son) tree...I planted the red bud tree when I was pregnant with him...It was just a stick when I put in the ground....both Josh and the tree are 28 now and have grown quite a bit...Josh's is 6'4"....and yes, the tree does have a trunk that comes off the side....so I tried to create it as close as I could... We have three cranes that fly over an honk daily...which Presley is fascinated with...so I hand drew and did my first thread painting on them.. Found a button in my collection that said "Friends" placed that between Jacobs feet....They are best friends... I think Jacob may come more to visit Presley than Nan (me)....but then he does get gas money from me on occasion...soooo giggle giggle. Since we had covered our Hoffman Challenge with netting..I decided to cover it with netting...which I thought also gave it a magical look....
Our dear Kathy gave this wall hanging its name " A Leap of Faith"... This really has a lot of meaning to me...and was fun making...The Ol' Blogger

Grandmother's Flower Garden
At one time Rhona had a co worker Teresa , whose mother had gone home to Heaven. When Teresa was cleaning out her mother's stuff, she gave Rhona boxes and bags of her treasures..Among them were pieced Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks, made mostly from 1930's and 40's fabrics.. Rhona hand pieced the blocks to the "path" and then machine quilted the above quilt. Now the pieces the Grandmother had so lovingly cut and sewed together are complete...Thanks to Teresa and Rhona..a cheer went up in the quilting section in Heaven...
