Cindy's Autumn...

Last week I was at Cindy T's to pick up a pattern, so I took some pictures of her fall decor..Since I wouldn't be there on Saturday for our monthly SoTA Day, as I would be in Graceland. Which was a wonderful trip. I just love Cindy's Autumn Pumpkin, I know I have showed this before, but never get enough of it..
This Cat wall hanging is new this year..She has it decorating the stairway to her sewing studio..It is honor of a cat that adopted them a few years back.:)
Her Baltimore Quilt has taken up residents for the season on the middle wall of a double stairway which leads to the living room or the kitchen..More to come..The Ol'Blogger

Flat SoTA's First Road Trip...

Jody, Rhona and I took a road trip to Columbus on Friday to the QOV Display...Then the three of us ate at Smith's Row..We had a Monto Cristo which is shaved ham, smoked turkey, and swiss cheese packed into layers of white bread. Then dredged in egg batter, fried to golden brown and sprinkled with powdered sugar. With homemade potato chips..hhmmm good...Standing in the back leaning against the wall, looking on as we ate, would be Flat Cindy, Flat Kathy and Flat Sherry as they weren't able to make the trip in person...Then we made a stop at the Brown County Winery before heading to Joann in Bloomington to pick up a few items on the way home...Was a great outing...The Ol'Blogger

Covered Bridge Totes

Cindy T. and her cousins found bags of potato chips in these feed sacks in a store in Indy..They loved the chips and Cindy then turned them into totes they will take to tour the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana.. Cindy had the bridge fabric for the tops and the handles in her stash...In reseaching "Covered Bridge Potato Chips" this is what I found.

"Covered Bridge Potato Chips is nestled in the heart of potato country in the picturesque Saint John River Valley. Located in Hartland New Brunswick, home of the longest covered bridge in the world, lies an old fashioned kettle chip company with old country taste and tradition. Every batch is cooked with care, one at a time, to ensure the best flavour and texture.

Taste: These potato chips came in a burlap sack, but it actually contained a more conventional potato chip bag. The best part, though, was that the bag contained really good potato chips. They were dark yellowish with some browning, somewhat wiggly, and they had the dry feel and great taste of Russet potato chips, with a good crispness and nice light crunch. They were quite tasty, and our tasters grabbed multiple handfuls as they crunched away while enjoying some beer. The Ol'Blogger

Astonishing Sunflower Pin Cushion

It's hard to imagine sunflowers as an unpopular plant. I think most people love them, none more than Cindy T..She sewed up this darling sunflower pin cushion with matching sissors holder...Although one can see it, Cindy attached the sunflower pin cushion to a spring from a beds boxed springs..
I found this very interesting, so am sharing...Native Americans in the U.S. have been using wild sunflower for food and medicine for at least 8,000 years. Archeological evidence suggests that Native Americans began cultivating and improving the sunflower as early as 2300 B.C. Thus, sunflower cultivation may predate cultivation of the "Three Sisters" of corn, beans and squash. The seeds of sunflower were usually roasted and ground into a fine meal for baking or used to thicken soups and stews. "Seed-balls", similar to peanut butter, made from sunflower butter made a convenient carry-along food for traveling. Roasted sunflower hulls were steeped in boiling water to make a coffee-like beverage. Dye was extracted from hulls and petals. Face paint was made from dried petals and pollen. Oil, extracted from the ground seeds by boiling, provided many tribes with cooking oil and hair treatment. Medicinal uses included everything from wart removal to snake bite treatment to sunstroke treatment.
Hope all enjoy this little history lesson..The Ol'Blogger
