What's The Point

Cindy entered this wall hanging in the Hoffman Challenge 2008. Her talents are quite evident with all the points..Which she named "What's The Point". Her quilt will be traveling this year. This quilt was selected with 44 others to be in the Canadian Trunk. There are 12 trunks to travel .. with this new one which will spend a full year in Canada traveling and visiting many shops and shows..What a wonderful honor for her...Not sure if this will mean a road trip for some :)
One can click on the picture and get a close up look at all the fine detail. Her choice of design for the Hoffman Fabric shows the amazing way her mind works. SoTA is totally blessed to have her and she is willing to let us pick her brain. She shares with us always, teaching, lending a hand as we grow in our creative abilities. Thank you, Cindy. We love you, The Ol' Blogger

Heel Spur Surgery

After suffering with pain for awhile, Cindy had surgery last Fri, Aug.22 for a heel spur..Now most would just wish the whole ordeal over...Not our own special Cindy. She uses her time wisely before surgery .Instead of dreading the inevitable, she takes on the task of brightening what will become her best new friend for awhile....The dreaded crutches.... Not only are they colorful... they are padded with bright colors, fringe and beads. That just happens (ya think) to match this dress. Kent did his part also ...he did the painting...What a man !!!! Now that is what I called taking a negative and turning it in to a positive. By the way who's doing the cooking while you are down? The Ol' Blogger

Fabric

By putting a raise object under the fabric and then using paintstiks you get some beautiful fabric. Picture is of some we did while at Jody's yesterday. We used some plastic sheets that had raise designs in them. If you click on the picture you can get a closer look...Sherry, Rhona and I are going to go shopping...must have paintstiks and other paraphernalia we don't have. All though our husbands would swear we do in our craft rooms. We will real soooon. Now we know why Cindy was so crazy about the paintstiks..You might want to give this a try...Really fun. grandchildren for make up day

Rhona, her two daughters and grandchildren dropped in while we were at Jody's. The boys have grown so much since we last saw them. Nicholas, Lucas, and Ashley loved playing with Jody's grandchildren toys. We were all fascinated with Ashley's feet. Her toes are so sweet one could suck on them all day:) Of course the boys didn't want to leave....come to think of it....neither did we.

Make Up Day

Since we had missed Aug13. Sherry and I arrived at Jody's early this morning, (hey it was early for me) for our.. Fun Meter Fill Up... Make Up Day. We were escorted out to the deck, where the fire place was lit (even though it was 90 out side :) Mama Mia music was playing softly, wine was ready, candles were burning ...Dreamy.... We started with show and tell of what they did at Kathy's....On the deck railing is what Jody called rusted fabric. Which is just that..fabric that has been rusted by tying it around a bottle with steel wool pads shredded and laid between the bottle and fabric. Then tied with copper wire emerged in water and left to rust.
Next she show us material that had been sprayed with bleach, or using bleach sticks, wrapped in different mediums, such as bubble wrap etc.. Neat... More to follow later...It was so relaxing and peaceful..I am ready for a nap. Elaine, aka The Ol' Blogger

Sherry to the Rescue!

What started out as a horrid day, was turned around by Sherry.. I had gone to my sewing room, all set to embroidery snowmen. Lo and behold my machine would not work...My heart just sank..I haven't even had it a year. The Sewing Center is closed on Monday..so I can't do anything till Tuesday...Knowing it is under warranty didn't ease my gut...I know it will be gone for weeks...You might know, I had to finish a snowman purse by next week..It is a birthday gift.

Wonder woman to the rescue..Sherry told me to come over and use hers. She was going to be in her sewing room all day working with her new quilting machine. Picture is of her and the new machine. Working on her Snowman Quilt to be exhibited at the " Twelve Days of Christmas Shoppe"this year. We had a blast. I got all the snowmen embroidery and am now sewing on beads in the snowflakes.. Purse will be done in time...Wonderful to have such great friends...Elaine

Celebrity Signing Autographs

Rhona and Jody are so admiring as Cindy autograph's the Times Mail article done on her, as was requested by Tony.... Really we had to twist her arm to get her to lay down her sewing project to be bothered with such trivia.....Or was it the blue corn chip with the yummy dip she had to lay down. Elaine

Waiting at the Courthouse

Not even a court hearing...keeps the SoTA Girls from meeting the Hoffman Challenge deadline.
Cindy looks on as Sherri and Jody work away...Kathy is taking this picture. They are patiently waiting on me while I take care of business. Many people stopped to shared quilt stories of their own... What a way to engage in conversations........Elaine

Subj: Hoffman Challenge Winners

Hi everyone,
Congratulations! You’ve all been named a winner of this year’s challenge. I’ve attached the list, and we’re frantically at work trying to get images up on the website. I’ll be trying to also post the traveling trunk assignments in the next few days. I apologize that this isn’t a more personal contact, but I’m really snowed under, as we only have a very short time to prepare all 12 trunks before our August 23-24th show. We will be exhibiting all 360 traveling items at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival for the first time ever. I was a bit psychotic to try to do a major show in the middle of the craziest month of my year, but I’m also pretty excited to see them all up in one place. Please consider coming! Colorado is beautiful, and there will be many other incredible exhibits as well. This could become a yearly thing, provided I and my staff survive. You can find more information at http://www.rockymountainquiltfestival.com/.
I have mailed the winners to Hoffman, and they will begin sending out awards soon. There was a change in the group award. Instead of awarding one grand prize, Christine Brown, the judge, awarded three honorable mention awards. They will be packets of fabric worth $300 each. We may adjust this category next year. We also had three additional doll awards given, as we received so many incredible dolls this year. These awards will also be fabric awards.
There were 579 entries this year. I’ll be posting the precise numbers soon. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, and again, thank you for your fabulous entries and support of the Hoffman Challenge.

New Project

Well here is the one I started Sun. the 3rd... "Haunted Hill Wall Hanging" Finished size will be 10.5"by 24.5". Hopefully this will motivate me more than the UFO club.
The girls are going to take my camera away from me and ban me from the blog...if I don't get a life...
Hey, I am even cooking Chicken and Dumplings today. Elaine
PS: Update: I finished the Haunted Hill Wall Hanging...just in time for Christmas... and the girls have not taken my camera away yet...giggle giggle The Ol' Blogger

We were in the best mood after watching this movie...We could have danced all over the parking lot...If you want to feel good go see Mamma Mia...Defiantly a chick movie. Elaine

Motto to Live By

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safety in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Chocolate in one hand and Wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming"WooHoo, What a ride!"

We are doing our best to fulfill this...We have planned another Fun Meter fill up on Aug.13 at Kathy's..Where we are going to try discharging fabric..Using bleaching items and paint sticks..We have been told to wear old clothing..I guess, she thinks we could be messy. This will be an outside project. So if it rains we won't cancel instead we will go to Jody's, and sew outside under her newly covered deck. Which her lovely husband (always willing to please) has covered with a tin roof. Sewing and listening to the rain on tin...Now that will probably put our Fun Meter in overdrive.

No matter which, we will post new pictures..Old clothes and all.. Except the Elder in our group will probably have on a homemade corsage of some sort. Oops, I probably will get a screeching letter comment on this one.. Oh well, I am not worried, she loves me, but some times she forgets.
Have to over look her, she is the Elder.

Forkin Doll

"Don't Fork With Mother Nature"...There are other categories one can enter for the Hoffman Challenge...Our very creative Kathy decided to make a doll and enter...

This picture is that creation. If you click on her, she will enlarge and show all the details Kathy put into her.... Her face is all tiny beads hand sewn on...Beads are even in her hair. Kathy cut flowers from the Hoffman Challenge Fabric and placed these randomly on her cloth body. Her arms and feet are made from forks...Hence the name...The prongs on the feet forks are painted as nail polish.

Of course this means another Fun Meter Day...because we all want a "Forkin Doll" Kathy is working on a whole "Forking Family"

We love her...The doll and Kathy
