I do believe one of our great loves would be gathering for food with each other...Here we all gathered for lunch..Chinese..Cindy couldn't join us on this occasion as she was home making cakes for her sorority.

Audry's Quilt

The Elders granddaughter Audry's pink and chocolate quilt all finished...Rouching is a series of channels along a garment through which you gather the fabric...Jody used the technique in the borders for this quilt...
Children are truly gifts from God and so are the talents we are all blessed with!

The Makings for Your Own Fairy Tale

Another finished "Fisherman"...This is Cindy's version...
Picture this...reclining in a soft comfortable chair... sound of light rain  bouncing from the tin roof over your head....eyes focusing on this fisherman placed on the table in front of you...The makings of your own Fairy Tale...just relax and let the mind drift ....imagine the journey this young boy will encounter as he lives and plays in the ocean...beads and fibers he collects which are use to decorate the coral he calls home...as he explores his new found sea life...

Merrymaking

Another new craft we applied our hand to on Saturday was copper molding and resin...
Using copper sheeting Jody had purchased for us...we each molded into different shapes. We decided to use the directions that came with our art clay...of course not the English ones :) as part of the design ..Then adding beads, family pictures, wire, pieces of viking knit. Lastly we poured in the resin mixture which Sherry had picked up for us. Not sure what will be the finally outcome of these treasures put am sure we will come up with fabulous " one of kind" items... You can see we had a very busy, productive and merrymaking day...
Next I will be sharing the show-n-tell from our day.....The Ol'Blogger

Jewelry Want A Bees

We purchased Art Clay Silver some time back...Saturday we decided to see what all we could make...in the above picture the five rain drops are what I got out of my clay..we have to let them dry and then Sherry will fire and it will turn in to 99.9% silver...by the way I do have a little and I mean little left..so much for the large hearts I was going to make my five girls....giggle
Next in the above picture is potato shaped rain drops...which went dry and painted with nail polish will make beautiful beads...like the ones pictured below...which my cousin Brenda turned into a bracelet for me..
Thank you Sweet Brenda for the
Potato Bracelet !!!!
Here is a picture of all the things I have drying from Saturday..the leaf is Sherry's...we also got a paste art clay and Sherry painted this leaf with hers..the little honey comb looking items are cork covered with the clay that was in a syringe....which when dry the cork disappears and the silver will have spaces where the cork was...I hope...
Will show finished items when dried and fired..The Ol'Blogger

May Monthly Fun Meter Fill Up Meeting

Making jewelry by hand is rewarding, fun and not as complicated as you may think.... I learned this last Saturday at our "Monthly May Fun Meter Fill Up Meeting"...Pictured above are bracelets and earrings Sherry made..The top one is viking knit she made from wire with end caps and a bead in the middle..We played with wire on Saturday to make the viking knit...it was amazing how an inch and half of knit when pulled through the pull plate would increase to 3 inches and half...
Next is the pink size 11 beads with large beads sown on top..and then the earrings to match..Sherry wore these on Saturday with a pink top...was so cute...one can custom make jewelry to match a specific outfit.

? UFO

This is darling....By the way this is Sherry's first UFO....not sure....but since February and April are passed...this must be June's....But she has gotten a lot of UFOs done... just none were on her list...this one was suppose to be created by "Chocolate Night 2009"....better late than never.....and it is on her list...yea...giggle...If you enlarge it you can see all her fine embroidery...honestly when I got the picture and enlarged it, it took my breath away...
Still today the stereotypical image of a witch is that of an ugly old hag wearing a broad brimmed, tall and black pointed hat. “But where did the hat or image originate”? This hat does not conjure up an ugly old hag at all...all I see are 6 lovely "Stitchin Witches" with an interesting life living it to the fullest....in researching I found some very interesting info...

Is it possible that the witches hat is an exaggeration of the tall conical “Dunces Hat”, popular in the royal courts during the 15th century? Or the blunt-topped hats worn by the Puritans and Welsh of the same period . At one point long ago, pointed hats were a fashion icon in the city of London (then the fashion capital of Europe), but it took a long time for fashion to trickle into the country, and by the time they did, they became way out of fashion in the city. City folk called Country folk 'pagani' (which means country dweller), much the same as calling someone ‘a hick’, today.... (Okay I can wear that title...:)

Pointed hats soon became considered something only the 'pagani' would wear, most were Herbalists and Farmers wife’s who lived in the country and understood the land. Since they were wise to the ways of nature and could grow and harvest herbs, so the pointed hat became associated with the ‘Wise Woman’ or ‘Witch'. During this same period the Christian Church chipped-in and associated pointed hats with the horns of the Devil, by which time they frowned upon their use. ("Go figure")
Now as for the "Wise Woman" would that be our own "Elder" they are talking about here....hehehehehehe
There are other possible explanations.. if one has the time to research it out...but I need to get my crops harvest on Farmville and must go now...Love The Ol'Blogger..

I Went to a Garden Party

I went to a garden party to reminisce with some old friends,
A chance to share old memories and hear them all again

(apologies to Ricky Nelson)

Our dear friend Judith hosted a May tea last Wednesday and held it outdoors at her Old Farmhouse.  We were supposed to wear our aprons and bring stories of our mothers and grandmothers and their aprons.  The weather was gorgeous -just like it was made to order for the day.  We saw many many aprons - some old, some new, but I'm sure they all had a story.

Sherry and I counted 51 lovely ladies in attendance.

I would like to add it is very addictive...I have made three braclets and am now working on a necklace...So much for busy...there is always time to do what you want to do...The Ol'Blogger

Sherry

Sherry sent me this picture of the bracelet she made this week.. Using seed beads she was able to design her name into it...I do know she took it out several times before she finally decided it was presentable.. I am sure it was presentable  long before she decided it was..giggle..
How many of you agree with me this sure beats tattooing your name into your skin?
I love it Sherry...The Ol'Blogger
PS..this is one picture that looking at small is better as when you enlarge... it is blurred and you lose the look...I can hardly wait to see this on her arm...
